It’s like saying, “I’m sorry, I’m being myself.”

Which is a bit silly.

Not everyone agrees, sure, but we can’t apologize constantly about the things that make us, us.

If someone is offended, apologize for offending them, but don’t feel like you have to apologize for things you believe in.

Gotta stay true to yourself guys, not everyone is going to have the same thoughts.

That’s what makes us us. Embrace them! 

I myself feel that apologizing when stating an opinion can have its place.  The quoted example is ridiculous and creates the idea that you could be wrong about your own belief.  Where I find it appropriate is if you are in an environment where you know a majority is likely to not enjoy the information you are sharing.  Then making the statement, “I do apologize if you are offended, but…” highly useful.  It is a great cushion for lightening the unjustified rage of ignorant individuals who choose to castigate someone for having an opinion different than their own.
